Ask the experts: Mark Dubin, our Greece expert, suggests where to stay and eat on the Greek island of Lesbos.
Peter Weakley writes
We are travelling to Lesbos later this summer and were wondering if you had any tips about the island – especially recommendations for the best restaurants and beaches.
Marc Dubin, Greece expert, replies
Lesbos has an abundance of both beaches and restaurants. The best of the former, on the south-facing coast, are Skala Eressou (which is a full-on resort) and Vaterá, which is much quieter.
Good restaurants are scattered across the island; some of my favourites are Ouzeri Ermis, in the Epano Skala district of the main town, Mytilini; Baluhanas, in Perama, on the Gulf of Gera; the central taverna in Petri hamlet, near Molyvos; and the long-running Captain’s Table, in Molyvos itself. And don’t miss the two dozen or so local varieties of locally distilled ouzo.
